Muralli has been in practice for almost 18 years. He completed his pupillage under a Senior Counsel in one of Singapore’s largest law firms before moving to Straits Law Practice LLC, before its combination with K&L Gates LLP. There, he rose to the rank of Director, where he supervised the restructuring and insolvency practice and was one of the lead partners in the litigation department.
Muralli’s practice is varied. Specializing in commercial and civil litigation and restructuring and insolvency, he has also assisted clients in the areas of regulatory and internal investigations as well as international and domestic arbitrations.
Muralli’s achievements, specifically in the areas of litigation and restructuring and insolvency have been recognized by various publications such as The Legal 500, IFLR, Who’s Who Legal, Asian Legal Business and Benchmark Litigation.
Memorable cases, where Muralli has acted in, and continues to act in, include advising the liquidators of Ocean Tankers (Pte) Ltd, an engagement that has led to numerous landmark decisions, acting for a party, in the Singapore International Commercial Court, who sought to resist the recognition in Singapore of Garuda Indonesia’s insolvency proceedings in Indonesia, and acting for one of the defendant’s in 1MDB and its subsidiary’s efforts to recover losses from the infamous 1MDB scandal.
Muralli enjoys managing the resolution of large and complex disputes either by way of amicable means or traditional dispute resolution. He is particularly fond of acting in matters which appear to be lost causes at first sight. Muralli is passionate in training the younger generation and regularly assists and conducts advocacy training to future advocates.
Muralli was previously a Board Member of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is currently a Council Member of the Singapore Red Cross. Muralli is also involved in grassroots work.
Muralli comes from a family of many lawyers or those involved in the legal profession. He was led down the path of the practice of law, by his father, a senior lawyer in practice, who fed his son countless books by John Grisham in his formative and unguarded years. Despite Muralli’s efforts, at least 6 family members are on path to becoming lawyers or have already become lawyers. Much to his dismay, most pursued their legal education in his alma mater. He is married to yet another lawyer, Annabel, with whom he shares three sons. Muralli enjoys debating controversial stances with his sons moderated by Annabel. He has yet to win any of these debates.
